Annual Conference

The Iowa Museum Association annually holds a statewide conference to provide networking, communication, and educational opportunities.  The Annual Meeting of the Iowa Museum Association is held during the annual conference. 

The conference moves around the state of Iowa.  Annual Meeting & Conference Schedule:

October 6-7-8, 2013 – Sioux City Art Center & Sioux City Public Museum, Sioux City
October 12-13-14, 2014 – National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, Cedar Rapids
October 4-5-6, 2015 – Pella Historical Society/National Sprint Car HOF & Museum/Central College, Pella/Knoxville
October 2016 – Octagon Center for the Arts, Ames

Benchmarks in Conference Planning Time Line:

   Three years in advance a request for proposals is issued and the IMA Board determines the conference location for the next three years.

   18 months in advance the museums in the chosen community begin meeting to determine theme, venue, plenary speaker, activities, and more.

   9 months in advance a call for papers is issued.

   7-9 months in advance a call for exhibitors is issued.

   1 month in advance the conference hotel may cut off the discounted room rate.
