Annual Fund Manager
Job Description

Reporting Supervisor: Director of Development
Position Overview:
The Annual Fund Manager is a key member of the development team who maintains, renews, and builds annual fund support with emphasis on direct mail programs. S/he reports directly to the Director of Development.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Maintains the fundraising database – inputting and tracking gifts, etc.
2. Manages direct mail programs - donor/membership procurement, included renewals
3. Manages donor acknowledgements – thank you letters and calls, recognition publication listings, etc.
4. Serves as third-in-line backup to Receptionist (volunteer or staff) and Foundation Assistant in answering incoming phone calls
5. Accomplishes general office duties, as assigned
Specific Duties:
1. Inputs all annual fund gifts as well as those secured through other fundraising initiatives – major gifts, grant awards, planned giving, etc.
2. Manages recurring gift program and assists Director of Development grow this initiative
3. Produces reports tracking progress toward fundraising goals
4. Coordinates all aspects of direct mail appeals – creating letters; managing lists; preparing, generating, and mailing packages
5. Generates personalized thank you letters for annual fund gifts
6. Generates weekly lists of gifts received
7. Coordinates with Accountant to reconcile gift allocations and tracking between Development database and accounting system
8. Monitors pledges – including sending reminders and tracking progress toward annual campaign goals
9. Researches grant opportunities and supports grant proposal writing activities
10. Assists Director of Development with budgeting, cash flow analysis, and projections
11. Assists in donor prospecting and membership renewal effort
12. Prepares mailing lists for recognition publications and other acknowledgement opportunities
13. Assists Director of Development in preparing appropriate reports for SHF Board
14. As available, assists Director of Development with correspondence
15. Occasionally, runs errands outside the office
16. Accepts other assignments as assigned
Qualifications:

2. Ability to set goals and meet deadlines
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with a strong awareness of donor, volunteer, and public relations skills
4. Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks with minimal supervision
5. Ability to relate to people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills, and abilities
6. Willingness to accept assignments outside regular work routine to support co-workers
7. Understanding of her/his own skill limitations with willingness to accept constructive suggestions and learn new practices
8. Adherence to best practices in regard to handling of confidential information
9. Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and database management as well as competence in using Internet search processes
Education and/or Experience:
1. Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent demonstrated experience
2. Experience in satisfactory customer/client/patron service a plus
3. Knowledge of Des Moines and central Iowa preferred
4. Valid drivers license
Usual and Customary Expectations:
1. Prolonged erect seating, on average six hours per day.
2. Approximately one hour of standing and walking in an average work day
3. Flexibility in working with small staff and dealing with unanticipated quirks in office and technical environment
4. Ability to carry on normal conversation, in person and by telephone
5. Some evening and weekend program and event work required
