Administrative assistant Art Guild of Burlington

12/03/2008

Administrative assistant
Art Guild of Burlington

The Art Guild of Burlington is a community-based nonprofit organization offering exhibitions by local and regional visual artists and art classes for children and adults. We also do occasional programming in other areas, such as music and literature. Established in 1966 and now located in a historic former church in downtown Burlington, the Art Guild is probably best-known for its annual one-day fine arts and crafts fair, the Snake Alley Art Fair, held every June.

The Art Guild currently has a job opening for a part-time administrative assistant. Major components of the job include:

- serving as front-office receptionist;
- using a Macintosh computer with MS Word and Excel to organize and enter data for various areas such as membership mailings, class registrations, volunteer staffing statistics, retail sales, and our annual Snake Alley Art Fair;
- writing correspondence and occasional short pieces for our monthly newsletter or website;
- researching various topics such as artists in our permanent collection or online retailing, usually online;
- doing routine cleaning inside the building such as mopping and vacuuming;
- other duties as assigned.

This is an hourly job, encompassing approximately 20 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday afternoons, plus some evenings and Sundays. Pay will be slightly above Iowa minimum wage. There are no insurance, pension, vacation, or other fiscal benefits – but the job does offer an opportunity to learn new skills in a pleasant, evolving environment.
