DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library

This position reports directly to the President/CEO.
Status: Regular Full-time 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Finance serves in a key strategic advisory role to the President/CEO in areas of fiscal management and strategy and budget management.

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial operations of the NCSML. The position reports to the President/CEO and serves as a key member of the administrative team, provides leadership in the development of financial policies to support strategic decision making within the organization, and is responsible for strategic implementation of effective administrative operational activities. The position will work closely with the Treasurer of the corporation in the preparation of budget and financial materials and reports.

At this time, Finance is a one-person department – a successful candidate will be able/willing to be “hands on” with accounting tasks as well as able to manage the function.

Fiscal Management
• Advise and consult with the President/CEO on approaches related to operational effectiveness and efficiencies.
• Advise the President/CEO and Board of Directors, as appropriate, on issues related to financial policies, procedures, cash flow forecasting and management, and budget-related matters
• Provide leadership in improving financial systems and in streamlining fiscal practices
• Provide consultation and analysis on budgetary impacts of various policy decisions
• Assess and modify the Quickbooks financial database as needed for organizational reporting and analysis effectiveness.
• Advise other administrative areas to enhance operational effectiveness and customer service, including the installation of a new Point of Sale system.
• Advise on insurance and risk management
• Prepare for and work with auditor on annual audit

Financial Operation
• Maintain all financial records and budget on Quickbooks program
• Reconcile all daily cash and credit transactions with visitor services and museum store
• Prepare bank deposits and reconcile books with bank statements
• Manage accounts payable
• Balance donor records with financial records monthly
• Prepare monthly financial statements, P&L and balance sheet, report of cash flow income and expense against budget
• Provide income and expense reports for major events
• Communicate with banks and vendors on accounts, balances and services
• Maintain books for NCSML Properties, LLC
• Administer health insurance and other benefit programs
• Contract for payroll and related tax reports
• Maintain hiring, salary and benefit records for employees
• Work on and attend major museum events, as required

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 
• Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting or a related field; CPA preferred
• Five or more years of fiscal experience, including significant management experience
• Knowledge of annual budgets and budget planning within nonprofits
• Solid working knowledge and hands-on experience using Quickbooks, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Web-based applications and database software.
• Demonstrated experience working independently and managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Experience and skills working collaboratively across organizational boundaries, ability to communicate effectively with others (verbal and written) and dedication to customer service.
• Ability to problem-solve proactively and use sound judgment and initiative.
• Experience developing budget projections, reports and financial analyses in an organization with multiple funding sources, and ability to train others on financial management and related issues.
