Iowa Museum Association announces change in Committee Chairs

08/24/2009

As with so many organizations, the Iowa Museum Association relies on volunteers to help with many tasks.  One of the ways volunteers serve the IMA is by leading IMA committees.  At this time the Iowa Museum Association has six active committees and one small group – the Small Museum Group led by volunteer Judy Bowman, LeMars, Iowa.

The committee co-chairs listen to IMA members and brainstorm topics for workshops and seminars that they hope will be meaningful to the membership.  They work with the Executive Director to design fliers, organize the workshop, and present a cost-effective educational opportunity for museum staff and volunteers at all levels of development.  Already in 2009 IMA workshops have served over 150 individuals at workshops all across the state.

With two workshops left in 2009 (Collections Care on Exhibit in September and Introduction to Green Buildings and Energy Efficiency in Museums in November), the IMA has experienced a change in leadership in one committee.

After many years of dedicated service, Jerome Thompson has had to step down as co-chair of the Exhibits and Collections Committee due to his increased work responsibilities.  The IMA Board of Directors and the entire IMA membership thanks Jerome for his service and for sharing his expertise.  He will stay on as an IMA board member.  Lindsey MacAllister of Des Moines will join Angela Stanford in chairing the Exhibits and Collections Committee.

Following is a full list of the IMA Committee chairs.  Contact them with ideas for educational workshops or seminars.  Contact information will be found at www.iowamuseums.org under “About Us” – click on Committees.
