Developing Policies and Defining Board Roles

Presented by Attorney David J. Bright
Monday, September 11, 10:00 – 3:00 pm
Cedar Rapids Museum of Art
Lunch is included in the registration fee.

This workshop will address two of the biggest challenges for museum administrators: developing, managing and implementing appropriate policies and defining board roles to improve internal and external relationships. The content will be valuable for Executive Directors, board members, and other staff and volunteers who take on administrative roles.

In part one of the workshop, Attorney David J. Bright will present strategies for keeping policies current and up-to-date, will help attendees prioritize their writing and/or revision of policies, and will provide samples to jump-start the process. In particular, he will focus on policies related to personnel, finances, intellectual property, and facilities. In part two, Dave will focus on the role of board members and their relationship with directors and staff.

David J. Bright is an attorney with Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman where he practices in areas of law including business, corporate, real estate, estate planning, probate, nonprofit/tax-exempt organizations, franchise and distribution, anti-trust and trade regulation, and mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Dave has served on many community boards in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, and is a frequent public speaker on issues related to business formation, estate planning, art and museum law, and nonprofit organizations.
