In 2016 a convening of Iowa museum educators came together to discuss the draft social studies standards and how museums can partner with their counterparts in the school system to fulfill the standards as well as share Iowa history. Since that time, the Social Studies Standards have been adopted, and the IMA launched the Teaching Iowa History project to connect Iowa museums and Iowa educators through a crowd sourced database of primary sources in museum collections and lesson plans developed by pre-service teachers at two Iowa institutions of higher learning.
The 2019 convening will be an opportunity to discuss the further development of the crowd sourced database; how to incorporate museum-developed lessons into the Teaching Iowa History website; and how IMA can best support museum/school partnerships.
Registration Deadline: May 15, 2020
