DUTIES:
Develop, plan, and coordinate a wide variety of adult and children’s classes, programs, events, and workshops scheduled through the Muscatine Art Center. Schedule studio art instruction and school, youth, and adult tours. May serve as studio art instructor for youth, family and/or adult classes. Responsible for promotion of programs, classes, workshops, tours, special events, and other public offerings. Provide and layout content for program sections of the quarterly newsletter, write press releases, design flyers, and create e-newsletters. Represent the Muscatine Art Center at community activities and provide outreach programs. Take registrations for school, child, family, adult and youth group programs, tours, and studio art classes. Oversee the studio to make sure it is stocked and arranged for all activities. Submit purchase requests for supplies. Conduct visitor/program participant surveys and gather data from evaluations. Contribute to exhibition development and planning. Work with teachers and other youth educators to develop programs which connect to classroom learning, curriculum standards, and/or organizational criteria (for example, Scout badge programs). Supervise studio instructors, interns, and volunteers who are assisting with programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Ability to develop a variety of classes, workshops, events, and programs.
- Ability to plan and carry out all steps in creating a public program or event such as scheduling, making sure supplies are available, marketing, taking registrations, connecting educational activities to curriculum standards or objectives, and identifying tasks for interns and volunteers who are to assist with events and programs.
- Ability to work with people of all ages.
- Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, City officials, and the general public.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of art history, studio art instruction, history, and/or museum education practices.
- Experience working with children, individuals with special needs, and/or teaching adults.
- Experience developing programs or events.
- Marketing, social media, proofreading, basic graphic design.
- Prior experience with grant writing and/or grant reporting.
SALARY RANGE: $23.15 - $27.78/ hour with excellent benefits
