Become the Museum Education Coordinator at the
Union Pacific Railroad Museum
The Union
Pacific Railroad Museum education coordinator works as an integral part of the
Museum team to provide fun, engaging and educational experiences to visitors of
all ages.
This role
is responsible for event and program planning for inclusive, community
audiences, the efficient scheduling, planning, and development of the Museum’s
educational and interpretive programming.
The
Education Coordinator serves as a first point of contact to the public and
shares important information about programs, exhibits and special events. In
addition, the education coordinator is a team member in building community
relationships, developing and maintaining program materials and providing support
when needed in the museum.
The
education coordinator for the Union Pacific Railroad Museum is expected to
support the museum’s vision and share the values of excellence, inclusivity,
collaboration, innovation, respect, commitment, and accountability.
This
position is employed by the Union Pacific Museum Association. Direction and
supervision will fall under the Director of Development.
Salary is
$36,000 to $38,000 base, plus a $400 monthly health care stipend.

Major
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take the
lead role in developing, managing and coordinating partners and activities
for programming events that correspond to Museum strategic initiatives to
actively engage the community
- Assist
teachers/school groups in planning, coordinating and managing field trips
to the Museum. This includes helping teachers to select presentations,
making reservations, providing orientation material and following up with
teachers before and after group visits
- Make
personal contacts, actively develop teacher relationships, and promote the
museum and web resources to schools
- Develop and
provide programs that appeal to a variety of audiences; early childhood,
school-aged, families, adults and actively work with other museum staff to
promote those opportunities
- Train
interns, volunteers and tour guides in museum activities and programs
- Maintain
the outreach database and provide reports as needed
- Play a key
role in establishing learning goals for Museum programming and exhibits
and work to ensure they are achieved
- Work
closely with the Director of Development and Curator to develop grant
concepts, and to secure income and funding.
- Evaluate
and work to incorporate feedback into educational resources and programs
- Maintain
and organize supplies needed for programs activities
- Support
Director of Development and Volunteer Services by assisting when needed in
volunteer scheduling and gift shop operations support
- Provide
support for museum events and operations as needed
Experience
and Qualifications:
Required
- BA Degree
in communications, education, history, museum studies, public history or
similar
- Experience
working with the public in an educational setting
- Proficiency
in Microsoft office suite of programs and similar technology
- Proficiency
with web based technology and programs
- Excellent
phone and customer service skills
Preferred
- MA Degree
in education, history, museum studies, public history or similar degree
- Two years
experience in a museum education, other educational setting, or
interpretation
- Experience
working with volunteers
- Experience
providing programming to a wide variety of age groups and backgrounds
