Starting Salary Range: $36,000 - $38,000/yr + $400/mo stipend for healthcare ($4,800 annual)

Schedule: Tuesday thru Saturday, 9:00am – 6pm (close)

Job Description:

The Union Pacific Museum seeks a highly motivated and enthusiastic Hospitality & Communications Coordinator to oversee our front-of-house operations and museum promotion. This role is an integral part of the Museum team; planning, implementing, monitoring, optimizing and reporting on the museum’s website, online advertising efforts and social media channels. This position strives to provide an excellent experience for all Museum visitors. This critical role is often the first staff member with whom a visitor interacts, and must be able to communicate knowledgeably and enthusiastically about exhibitions, events, and Museum activities. The Hospitality and Communications Coordinator for the Union Pacific Railroad Museum is expected to support the museum’s vision and share the values of excellence, inclusivity, collaboration, innovation, respect, commitment and accountability.

This position is employed by the Union Pacific Museum Association. Direction and supervision will fall under the Director of Development.

Job Duties:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to visitors and lead by example to create an environment that is welcoming, engaging, and informative
  • Oversee the operations of the front of house areas, scheduling volunteers according to daily operations and event needs
  • Work with the Curator to learn exhibition opening and closing procedures, and any specific lighting or requirements, and handle incident reports
  • Supervise visitor experience on the floor by inspecting and monitoring the museum’s facilities and exhibits to ensure that all are in good working order and that visitors are being properly served.
  • Coordinate, schedule and promote the museum’s Travelling Exhibit Program, working alongside the collections and education roles to provide content, information, and promotional direction to participating institutions.
  • Update and maintain UPRRMuseum.org
  • Plan and execute monthly editorial calendars for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Plan, publish and optimize Facebook ads to promote museum events
  • Publish event details to local online community calendars
  • Maintain and optimize grant-funded Google Adwords text-based search ads
  • Write communications plans to support various museum events and initiatives
  • Write press releases, create flyers and ads to promote museum events
  • Track and report the museum’s performance metrics in a quarterly and annual scorecard

Experience and Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, advertising or equivalent work experience
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in public relations, digital marketing, content strategy, social media strategy or related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marketing strategies
  • Strong portfolio showing experience creating written, graphic and video content for a variety of social media platforms
  • Familiarity with Google Ads, Hootsuite
  • Strong editing and copywriting skills
  • Comfortable working with analytics and social listening tools to drive strategy
  • Ability to translate platform analytics reports into laymen’s terms
  • Proficiency using a variety of website content management systems

Preferred:

  • Experience working for a non-profit
  • Curiosity about the latest social media and digital marketing trends, including artificial intelligence
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (both written and verbal)
  • Understanding of HTML and CSS
