The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art’s Executive
Director Sean Ulmer named to the U.S Senate Curatorial Advisory Board.
Cedar Rapids
IA—
The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is pleased to announce that Executive Director
Sean Ulmer has been named to the U.S. Senate Curatorial Advisory Board. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley nominated Ulmer
for the position.
The
United States Senate Curatorial Advisory Board is comprised of thirteen members
who serve to provide advice and assistance to the U.S. Senate Commission on Art
on the “acquisition, care, and disposition of items within the United States
Senate Collection, or such other matters as the Commission determines
appropriate.” Serving two-year renewable
terms, Board members meet on a regular basis to study potential acquisitions
for appropriateness and authenticity, and to provide advice and assistance on
collections policies and plans, as well as conservation and disposition of
collections items.
“It
is indeed an honor to have been nominated for this important board by Senator
Grassley,” says Ulmer. “I am thrilled to
provide any assistance I can to the curator of the U.S. Senate collection. It is a privilege to serve in this capacity.”
“Sean
Ulmer’s public service is an asset to Iowa and our nation,” stated Senator
Grassley. “Museums, art, and cultural
programs provide a valuable and educational service to our communities. The same goes for the Senate Curator’s office
as it preserves parts of our history and share exhibits, publications and
programs with the public. As the Senate
President
pro
tem, I’m proud to have nominated a highly-qualified Iowan for the job.”
Ulmer
joins twelve other museum professionals from across the country, including architects,
curators, historians, professors, and conservation experts.
