July 20th and 21st, 2018

To all friends and students of the dramatic arts!

The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of (and invite you to attend!) the annual theatre conference sponsored by the National Society for the Preservation of Tent, Rep and Folk Theatre.  This year’s conference is scheduled for the weekend of July 21, 22. This year title is “In the Good Ole Summer Time.”

Attendees at the conference have the unique opportunity to do any or all of the following:
View the contents of the Theatre Museum, a unique collection of memorabilia from the era of portable legitimate theatre (1850-1950), including our rare collection of curtains and backdrops from both opera houses and tent theatre
Meet, chat with (and listen to the stories and tales of) former actors who trouped in tent, repertoire and circle stock companies
Browse through the research library maintained by the Society, the contents of which includes scripts, playbills, books, and much, much more
Listen to entertaining and educational presentations by fellow academics and troupers
  Have a great time!

The Conference is held at The Theatre Museum. Details as to cost and accommodations are available upon request.   We strive to keep the cost low so that students and academics can afford to attend.

Visit our website (thetheatremuseum.com) to view a list of previous papers.  The resources of the research library are available to help with the paper.  We can present ideas as well.  If you can’t write a paper this year, attending the conference will help you develop an idea.  Students have written master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, using our resources.   Subjects are appropriate for not only theatre courses, but American history and related courses as well.

We also encourage you to consider joining the society.  We welcome your ideas.  We want our membership to grow.  Ideas for future projects include a play writing contest and other endeavors of interest to those interested in legitimate theatre.

If you would like more information, please feel free to call,  my cell phone number is (319) 572-6819.   David Wagaman-Vice President
