September 24th

September 24th
Elizabeth Heineman has invited co-chairs Megan & Josh to present one or two 75 minute sessions on Saturday, September 24th at University of Iowa.  This is part of their German Iowa and the Global Midwest project.  The day will start with a plenary by three UIowa faculty on current research into German Iowa; then a visit to the exhibit at Old Capital - this will become a traveling exhibit later.  Then lunch, followed by breakout sessions.  We are to give a synopsis of our "Teaching Iowa History with Local Resources" project, what we're trying to create moving forward, share the resource guide, and send them home inspired to make connections.  We are to show them how to use artifacts to teach and encourage them to take artifacts to the classroom, get museum educators into the classroom, make local connections.  Our pre-work is to identify Iowa immigration stories - that alert was sent out in May.
